The Creedmoor Police Department is kicking off a new Citizen’s Police Academy in 2018. This program is designed to give Creedmoor residents and area business owners a chance to develop a better understanding of the services provided by their police department and a better understanding of the challenges faced by the agency and its’ members. The academy also creates a collaborative environment between local residents, business owners and police officers. This environment helps identify problems, generate community-oriented solutions and build the kind of trust critical to the success of the police department and results in a safe and great community.
Classes for this free 8-week academy will be held every Monday evening from 6:00 PM until 8:30 PM in the Creedmoor Commissioner’s Board Room, located at 111 Masonic Street. Classes will begin March 5th and meet every Monday until April 23rd. The curriculum within the academy will include a departmental overview, laws of arrest, search and seizure, use of force decisions, crime scene investigation, drugs and gangs, firearms, community policing and other topics.
Applicants must be 18 years of age or older. Preference will be given to residents of Creedmoor, local business owners and civic group members, but all southern Granville County community members are encouraged to apply. Participants must have no criminal history of felonies or serious misdemeanors.
Due to space restrictions, class size is limited to 20 eligible participants on a first-come, first-served basis. Applications may be picked up in person at the Creedmoor Police Department, or can be downloaded on the Citizen's Police Academy page.
Applications must be submitted to the police department by January 31st, 2018.
