Phases II, III, and IV

November 2021

November marked the official completion of the four-phase Cross-City Trail. The six mile greenway throughout Creedmoor creates a more walkable environment that separates motor vehicles from pedestrians on a rural North Carolina highway; yet connects both sides of the city to important areas such as schools, restaurants, parks, the Community Center, and City Hall.  This project provides a separate and protected, ADA-accessible, bicycle and pedestrian path that connects Lake Rogers Park in the west to downtown and new housing subdivisions in the east along 3.5 miles on NC 56 through southern Granville County.  Recently, a pedestrian path and bridge lights were added to the trail to ensure that it truly was a space that could be used at any time.

March 2021

Construction is finished on the Cross City Trail and the NC Hwy 56 realignment project! The downtown Main Street corridor connects to the added sidewalks on Wilton Avenue, Lake Road, and Durham Avenue to provide a safe transportation alternative.

The Board of Commissioners has also contracted with Duke Energy and Outdoor Provisions Electric to install path lighting and additional street lights on and near the Robertson Creek bridge and boardwalk. Much of the sub-contracted work is complete as the City waits for Duke Energy to complete the final installation.

The pedestrian bridge and boardwalks are installed, and crews are growing ever closer to officially connecting and opening phases of the trail. Work continues along most sections with pedestrian crossings (crosswalks and signage) yet to be installed.

September 2019

Cross City Trail September
Crews are making great progress on the Cross City Trail and
R-5707 (NC-56 realignment) over the summer. For the R-5707 project NC DOT has closed the Lake Road/Pine Street intersection permanently, and has installed a great deal of stormwater infrastructure.

City of Creedmoor contractors have begun pouring concrete for sections of sidewalk on the east side of the Cross City Trail project. A great deal of stormwater infrastructure has been installed along Wilton Avenue and Durham Avenue, and preparations are well underway to prepare the area around Roberson Creek for the pedestrian bridge and boardwalk.

June 2019

Cross City Trail and R-5707 (NC-56 realignment) construction continued in June. Contractors are making steady progress on both projects. Much of the activity on the Cross City Trail is centered around Robertson Creek and the Golden Pond neighborhood.

NC DOT contractors have begun work on R-5707 with replacement of underground infrastructure along the project area. This must be completed before removal of the existing roadway and construction of the new connecting route.

R5707 Project Design MapBarrels are up and construction has begun!  At the same time the Cross City Trail project construction is occurring, the NCDOT realignment project known as R-5707 will also be underway within Creedmoor’s city limits.  This project is managed by the NCDOT Division 5 and will realign NC-56 (West Lake Road and West Wilton Avenue) at US-15 (North Durham Avenue) and NC-50.  The existing traffic control signal will be relocated northward to the new intersection and additional sidewalks will also be included as part of the improvements.

With both projects occurring simultaneously, residents will definitely experience disruptions to traffic flow and other inconveniences.  Contractors will strive to minimize disruptions and ask for your cooperation and patience as they work to complete these great projects for our community.

Special effort will be made to keep residents informed of progress, potential detours, and other important information.

Creedmoor’s pedestrian/bicycle/greenway system is dubbed the Cross City Trail.  When completed, the system will provide over four miles of pedestrian and bicycle trails throughout the city. The final three phases of the project will begin construction in April, 2019.

Construction of the sidewalks, greenways, boardwalk, and bridge for Phases II, III, and IV will likely take a minimum of one full year to complete, depending on weather conditions.  As the project progresses through the city, residents with whom the city has obtained easements and whose homes are along the route will be notified of potential temporary driveway obstructions or other inconveniences.

PROJECT FUNDING
The total cost for this project from design through completion will be approximately $6.2 million.  The city has obtained approximately $4.7 million in reimbursable grant funds and will pay the remaining $1.5 million directly, leaving the city's portion of the project costs at only 24% of the total cost.
