Walk to School Day began as a simple idea – children and parents, school and local officials walking to school together on designated spring and fall days.  It is an energizing event, reminding everyone of the simple joy of walking to school, the health benefits of regular activity, and the need for safe places to walk and bike. Education surrounding the event focuses on health, safety, physical activity and concern for the environment.

Creedmoor Elementary joins schools from around the world to celebrate Walk to School Day in May and October when approximately 350 students walk to school along with parents, teachers, and community leaders.  The day begins at 7:00 a.m. with students arriving by bus or parent drop-off at South Granville High School, 701 N. Crescent Drive.  Students then use city sidewalks to safely walk to school; local officials, residents, parents, and teachers are stationed along the route for safety.

The Creedmoor Police Department provides traffic control during the event, and organizers ask motorists to drive cautiously.

The local event is organized by the City of Creedmoor, Creedmoor Elementary School, the Creedmoor Police Department, Safe Routes to School, Granville Greenways, NCDOT and UNC Highway Safety Research Center.

Residents are encouraged to register for e-Notification to stay informed of event news and happenings in Creedmoor.  Visit the Events Calendar page to check the date for the next Walk to School Day.
