Overview
Code Enforcement is enabled by North Carolina law in order for local governments to establish standards and enforcement systems for minimum housing fitness, abandoned structures, non-residential buildings, zoning, subdivisions, junked/abandoned vehicles, nuisances and general penalties.

Benefits of Code Enforcement
Communities often find that properties that are unkempt, be it as simple as high grass and weeds or having unmaintained houses and commercial structures that may pose health and safety risks, become blights in a neighborhood that reduce future investment in health and safety. Code Enforcement is provided in the City of Creedmoor to assist property owners by protecting their investment.

Code Enforcement Methods
The Code Enforcement Officer (CEO) will approach code enforcement proactively; however, citizens, residents, occupants, or visitors may still report a “suspected” code violation either through phone call, email, or in person. Photographs are welcome and anonymous complaints are accepted.  If you wish to have a follow-up call or information regarding the outcome of the complaint, you will need to provide a name and phone number.

The CEO will investigate all complaints and determine if a violation exists.  In cases of eminent threat to public health, safety, and/or general welfare, immediate action can be taken (i.e., stop work order for non-permitted construction up to eviction for truly unsafe housing situations).

The CEO strives to make informal personal contact and may send a courtesy letter to gain voluntary compliance through information and education.  If he is unable to make personal contact or no response is received to the courtesy letter, a Notice of Violation (NOV) is sent by first class.  The notice will give the responsible party a specific amount of time to comply and correct the violation.  The time can vary depending on the nature of the work that needs to be accomplished in order to gain compliance. Property owners will always be copied on NOV’s sent regarding their land.
